About this event

Limited to 8 participants. Cost is $150 --

In this one-day workshop, we will begin with a wide mouth closed form with a high
shoulder, similar to a Native American Olla Pot, to get familiar with the hollowing tools
and practice on our technique. Next, we will move on to hollowing through as small an
opening as we feel comfortable with. --

The goal of this workshop is to introduce you to the techniques that Kevin uses to create
hollow forms and for you to leave the class with confidence to continue honing your
skills in your own shop. You may go home with a couple pieces ready for finishing, or
you may break a couple pieces as you learn the process. Either way, I guarantee you
we will have fun as you learn valuable techniques in free-hand hollowing. Even if you
use a captured system in your shop, free-hand hollowing will help you better understand
what the cutter is doing inside the vessel.
--
Tools Needed
The following is a basic tool list:
Bowl Gouge, ½” or 5/8”
Spindle Detail Gouge, 3/8” – for shaping tenon and finishing the foot.
Faceshield
A dust mask is also highly recommended
Any other tools you typically use on every piece.
--
We will be working with face-grain (typical bowl oriented) blanks.
--
Kevin will supply each student with a set of hollowing tools to use for the class.
